Former Congressman and vice presidential candidate Jack Kemp’s office announced on Tuesday that he is battling cancer.
The office issued this statement: "Mr. Kemp has been undergoing tests to determine the origin of the disease and the options for continued treatment. He will continue to serve as Chairman of Kemp Partners and plans to remain involved in his business, charitable and politically related activities. Mr. Kemp and his family are grateful for the thoughts and prayers of friends and appreciate respect for their privacy at this time."
After his football career as a Buffalo Bills quarterback, Kemp, 73, represented western New York for nine terms in Congress. He later served as President George H.W. Bush's housing secretary and ran for vice president as Bob Dole's running mate in 1996.
