Goolsbee: Tough Month But No Economic Trend

By    |   Sunday, 05 June 2011 09:58 AM EDT

President Barack Obama's top economic adviser, Austan Goolsbee, says the disappointing jobs report out Friday may have been a fluke, Politico reports.

"One month is not a trend," Goolsbee said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "We faced a stiffer headwind and this was a tough month."

While the recent report showed only 54,000 jobs added while unemployment ticked up to 9.1 percent, White House Council of Economic Advisers chief Goolsbee said Obama's approach was working in the long-term.

"In the last six months we've added a million jobs," Goolsbee said. "The president's plan - there is a plan and it has been working."
