The founder and CEO of the liberal Tides Foundation has asked major advertisers to boycott Fox News, blaming Glenn Beck for inspiring a recent assassination plot.
The CEO, Drummond Pike, said advertisers of Beck's Fox News show
risk having blood on their hands if they continue to sponsor the program.
Pike made the plea in a letter to the chairmen of the boards of JP Morgan Chase, GEICO, Zurich Financial, Chrysler, Direct Holdings Americas, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Lilly Corporate Center, BP and The Hartford Financial Services Group, reports the Huffington Post.
The Tides Foundation and the ACLU were targeted in July by Byron Williams, whose plot was thwarted by police during a shootout on an Oakland, Calif., freeway.
After his arrest Williams said, "I would have never started watching Fox News if it wasn't for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind."
Beck and his Fox News show has long been the target of an unsuccessful liberal effort to force advertisers to boycott his show. The campaign against Beck was first led by a far-left organization called Color for Change.
Beck has never advocated violence in his critique of Tides or any other left-wing organization.
