Fiorina Hospitalized in California for Infection

Tuesday, 26 October 2010 02:03 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES - Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday for treatment of an infection but was expected to make a quick recovery and return to the campaign trail in California, her staff said.

Fiorina, a former Hewlett-Packard CEO who successfully battled breast cancer, developed the infection as a result of reconstructive surgery over the summer, Deborah Bowker, her chief of staff, said in a brief statement.

Bowker said Fiorina, 56, was being treated with antibiotics.

"While this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat, and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back out on the campaign trail soon," Bowker said.

"Carly is looking forward to getting back to her full campaign schedule and to defeating (Democratic incumbent) Barbara Boxer on November 2."

Polls show Fiorina, a political novice, in a tight race with Boxer, a liberal Democrat seeking her fourth term in the Senate
