Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen says Republicans are being "irresponsible and reckless" in their relentless drive for spending

cuts,
Politico reports.
"We think that’s the wrong approach to this. We need to get the economy fully in gear," Van Hollen said Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation." "This will not create one job. In fact, it will cost jobs."
But Republican Rep. Paul Ryan disagreed, saying the proposed budget cuts won't hurt the economy.
"This is the same economic methodology that was used to say that if we passed the stimulus bill it would keep unemployment from hitting eight percent," Ryan said. "High deficits, uncontrolled debt means job creation goes away today."
