Boehner: GOP ‘Won’t Punt’ on Entitlements

Budget experts note that the long-term deficit and debt burden can’t be slashed without going after entitlements – Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. And House Speaker John Boehner says that’s exactly what Republicans will do when they present their budget proposal in the spring, The Hill reports.
 
“Republicans will not punt,” Boehner told reporters at a press conference where Republicans blasted President Barack Obama’s budget proposal. “Everything is on the table. We will put forward a budget that deals with the challenges that face our country.”

Boehner didn’t specifically say whether the GOP budget will cut spending for Social Security and Medicare. But he did say, “I have no doubt that all of these issues would be on the table. The biggest danger to our country is if we do not act.”
