Most Americans are satisfied that last week’s killing of terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki was necessary. But Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul isn’t one of them, saying the move might be justification for impeaching President Barack Obama,
Politico reports.
The Texas congressman said during a Manchester, N.H., town hall meeting Monday that impeachment would be “possible,” and he wants to know more about how the administration “flouted the law.” The killing represents a move toward “tyranny,” Paul said.
“I put responsibility on the president because this is obviously a step in the wrong direction,” Paul said. “We have just totally disrespected the Constitution.”
Paul is the first presidential candidate to come out against killing the al-Qaida henchman.
