House Republicans are clearly doing something right. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer says some Democrats will support the $100 billion in spending cuts formulated by House GOP members,
Politico reports.

To be sure, the Maryland Democrat also calls the GOP effort to slash the deficit “more cosmetic than real” so far, but Republicans would say the same thing about Democrats.
Hoyer lauds the new Republican House leadership for a smooth transition to power.
Bipartisan negotiations have begun that could end in passage of significant legislation, Hoyer says.
In discussions with his Democratic colleagues, Hoyer says many members are ready to support some domestic spending reductions. But they’ll also seek cutbacks in defense spending and entitlements.
“Those are two areas — entitlements and defense — where hopefully we’re going to have some opportunity to work together and where Democrats and Republicans agree,” Hoyer adds.
