Sessions Seeks to Continue as NRCC Chairman

Rep. Pete Sessions (pictured) of Texas wants to stay on as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). That means he has chosen not to challenge Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California for majority whip in the next session of Congress, an NRCC official tells The Hill. The majority whip is the third-ranking member of the congressional leadership team.

I strongly believe in selling the fight, and I will be asking my colleagues to support me as NRCC Chairman next Congress to strengthen our gains and advance an agenda for American prosperity," Sessions says in a statement.

His refrain from a tussle with McCarthy will enable Sessions to gain more support from his Republican colleagues in Congress.
