Plouffe: Dems Can Retain House, Senate

Experts are almost unanimous in predicting huge gains for the GOP in next month’s congressional elections. But Democratic strategist David Plouffe says his party can beat back the Republican assault and retain control of the House and Senate, Roll Call reports.

david, plouffe, dems, retain, houseHis basic hope is that the GOP has peaked too early and that hardcore Republican candidates will energize Democratic voters.

“The Republicans were at full strength a long time ago,” Plouffe said at a press conference Thursday. “They are in a good place; the point is I don’t see another surge here. ... We have an opportunity, I think, to close the gap a little bit. And if we do that, I think we have the ability to hold on to the House and the Senate and win some of these governor’s races.”
