Pelosi Supporters Among Biggest Losers

Nancy Pelosi became House Speaker in 2007 and kept the job in 2009, thanks largely to Democrats elected in 2006 and 2008. She called the freshmen class of 2006 her “majority makers.” She can call them her “minority makers” now. Fourteen members of the freshman class of 2006 and 21 members of the 2008 freshman class lost their seats yesterday, The Hill reports.

Democrats suffered their biggest losses in swing states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. They also lost big in upstate New York, New Hampshire, Virginia, Indiana and several Southern states.

Democrats are left holding only five House seats from Ohio, as Republicans took out freshman Democratic Reps. John Boccieri, Mary Jo Kilroy and Steve Driehaus. Sophomores Zack Space and Charlie Wilson also went down.
