House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says her recent comments about Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich have been misinterpreted and that she doesn’t have any secret dirt on the former House speaker, The Hill
"I have said over and over again, as far as Speaker Gingrich is concerned, I refer you to the public record," Pelosi said at a news conference. "It's a matter of public record." Pelosi had commented in a recent interview that she knew “a lot about him.”
The remarks from the Democratic California congresswoman drew attention and speculation because she served on the Ethics Committee that investigated Gingrich for violating tax law and lying to investigators in the 1990s, the Hill reported.
At the time, Pelosi's office said she was referring only to material made public but the issue flared again this week when she said Gingrich would never become president, adding, "There is something I know. The Republicans, if they choose to nominate him that's their prerogative. I don't even think that's going to happen.”
