Both House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer agree an ethics case against Rep. Anthony Weiner would take an inordinate amount of time and the Paul Ryan, Steny Hoyer, Anthony Weinerbest answer would be for him to resign, Politico says.

“Forcing him out would require a process,” Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 Democrat in the House, told Bob Schieffer, host of CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

“Any process – a judicial process through the ethics committee – is going to take time. I really don’t know that we have that time,” Hoyer said, stopping short of calling for Weiner’s resignation, as several top congressional Democrats have.

Ryan also downplayed a congressional ethics investigation, which could look at whether Weiner misappropriated House resources in carrying out his online relationships.

“The ethics committee would have to process this. This would take time. I think the fastest and best way is for Anthony to resign,” Ryan said.
