The rancorous rift between President Barack Obama and the increasingly dissatisfied left is ratcheting up in the furor over Obama’s proposed tax-cut deal with Republicans. And one group is tossing the president’s campaign rhetoric right back at him. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has released a TV ad, titled "Obama's Conscience," set to air in Washington, D.C., and two Indiana metropolitan areas that rips Obama for appearing to break his promise not to continue all the Bush-era tax cuts, Politico reports.

The commercial features Obama saying of Sen. John McCain at an April 2008 rally in Indiana during the presidential campaign: "He’s promising four more years of tax cuts for CEOs. But George Bush's economic policies still offend my conscience and they still offend yours,” he says, receiving cheers.

The screen then goes dark, and this text appears: “If Obama won’t fight for his promise, Congress needs to.”
