Goldberg: Obama Adoration Propels Media Bias

Wednesday, 28 September 2011 01:01 PM EDT

Americans no longer trust the mass media because their thrust has turned from news reporting to political activism, former CBS correspondent Bernie Goldberg told Bill O’Reilly on Fox News.

Goldberg was responding on “The O’Reilly Factor” Tuesday night to a new Gallup poll in which 55 percent of respondents said they have little or no trust and confidence in the media, while 44 percent had some or a great deal of trust and confidence. The poll also showed that three-quarters of Republican respondents said the media are too liberal, compared with just 20 percent of Democrats.

Goldberg blamed the lack of faith in the media on “its relationship with Barack Obama. During the [2008] campaign, [the media] fell in love with him. They moved from old-fashioned media bias into something new — media activism . . . The media decided it was OK to take sides without apology.”

Story continues below video.

O’Reilly also cited a Pew Research Center poll that found that the primary news source for most of the 1,501 respondents is Fox News, compared to 6 percent who turn to MSNBC, viewers whom O’Reilly described as “Fidel Castro supporters.”
