Support for President Obama is fading among two groups considered essential to his re-election: liberal Democrats and blacks, a new poll discloses.

The percentage of liberal Democrats who strongly support Obama’s record on jobs dropped 22 points from last year, from 55 percent to 31 percent, according to the Washington Post-ABC News survey.

Among blacks, the percentage who believe Obama has helped the economy plunged from 77 percent in October to just over half in the new poll.

Among all respondents, support for Obama’s handling of the economy has dropped to an all-time low, 39 percent, while 57 percent disapprove and 43 percent say they strongly disapprove.

Just 38 percent approve of his handling of the federal budget deficit.
