The liberal media will cling to President Barack Obama’s underdog appeal, and their coverage will strive to protect him from critics when he runs for re-election in 2012, says Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill.

“This guy pushed every one of the media’s buttons. He was liberal, he was different, he was new, he was black,” Walsh told CNSNews.com.

Obama’s “are destroying this country,” Walsh said.

“They are so vested in our first black president not being a failure,” he continued. “It’s going to be amazing to watch the lengths they will go to to protect him. There’s going to be a real desperation.”

This approach poses a unique challenge to the Republican candidates, who will have to be extremely cautious in how they respond to it, Walsh said.
