Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says despite White House claims that a balanced budget amendment is “draconian” he is firm in his conviction that such a move is the only way to deal with the

country’s long term fiscal situation, according to
Politico.
On CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, Graham said the GOP should only raise the debt ceiling in exchange for the requirements in the “Cut, Cap and Balance” law the House is expected to vote on next week. That bill would cut government spending to 2008 levels, cap sending for the next decade, and require the passage of a balanced budget constitutional amendment.
“For those three things we’ll raise the debt limit,” Graham said. “That will be the Republican position in the House almost unanimously — I think it will be the Republican position in the Senate.”
Graham said the nation is threatened by unsustainable debt.
“What is calamitous is the path we’re on as a nation,” Graham said. “We’re becoming Greece.”
