Lieberman: Tax Cuts Will Happen after Midterms

Sunday, 26 September 2010 11:32 AM EDT

Sen. Joe Lieberman predicted Sunday that Congress will permanently extend the Bush-era tax cuts for middle-class families, and for wealthy Americans "for at least a year or two."

But, said Lieberman, I-Conn., that won't happen until after November's midterm elections.

"In a September session, it's hard to separate anything you do from politics," he said on CNN's "State of the Union."

The Bush-era tax cuts are due to expire at the end of this year. Republicans want to extend them for all Americans. President Barack Obama wants to keep them only for families making less than $250,000 a year.
