Jeb Bush: Obama ‘Humphrey on Steroids’

By    |   Wednesday, 23 June 2010 11:34 AM EDT

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is speaking out against President Obama for his Bush-bashing — President George W. Bush-bashing, that is.

Jeb takes issue with Obama for blaming his older brother’s administration for the frazzled economy, huge budget deficits, and lax oversight of oil wells.

“It’s kind of like a kid coming to school saying, ‘The dog ate my homework,’” Jeb said in an interview with Matt Bai of The New York Times.

“It’s childish. This is what children do until they mature. They don’t accept responsibility.”

Bush suggested that Obama should “get advice that applies some of the lessons of leadership my brother learned, because he apparently likes to act like he’s still campaigning, and he likes to blame George’s administration for everything . . .

“By and large, I think the president, instead of being a 21st-century leader, is Hubert Humphrey on steroids. I don’t think there’s much newness in spending more money as the solution to every problem.”

Asked whether the George W. Bush administration did bear responsibility for the economic collapse, Bush told the Times: “Congress, the administration, everyone can accept some responsibility. The issue to me is what we do now. Who cares who’s to blame?”
