Healthcare Profession Abandons Democrats

Just 18 months after President Barack Obama lauded leaders of the healthcare industry for backing his healthcare reform effort, the industry is fleeing the Democratic Party for the GOP. The health insurance industry alone donated $543,840 to Republicans, compared to $353,870 for Democrats in June, the latest month for which data are available, Politico reports.

The industry’s donating, “flipped on its head faster than you could say ‘go,’” Dave Levinthal of the Center for Responsive Politics told Politico.

Health professionals rejected the American Medical Association’s pro-reform position, turning into the strongest backers of the Tea Party Caucus – to the tune of $2.7 million. The Caucus, a coalition of House conservatives, vehemently objected to Obamacare.
