Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards might be indicted soon for allegedly misusing 2008 campaign funds to cover up an affair with one of his aides. And Edwards met secretly Thursday with big-time donor Rachel “Bunny” Mellon, whose contributions allegedly helped finance Edwards’ deception, according to
Politico.

The 100-year-old heiress to the Mellon fortune has given more than $4 million to Edwards-related political groups. Federal investigators contend that she donated $700,000 to Edwards that he spent to hide his affair with campaign staffer, Rielle Hunter.
Prosecutors preparing a possible indictment of Edwards undoubtedly will take note of Thursday’s meeting, which took place at Mellon’s home in home in Upperville, Va., ABC first reported.
The rendezvous was “entirely personal and social,” Mellon’s lawyer, William Taylor, told The Associated Press. “There was no discussion of anything related to his situation.”
