By    |   Sunday, 10 April 2011 11:22 AM EDT

Potential 2012 presidential candidate Donald Trump says he is investigating where President Barack Obama was born because the Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Birth Certificate, president’s certificate of birth is insufficient. Trump Sunday also asked CNN’s Candy Crowley why Obama has spent $2 million to avoid the issue, and said that referring to those who are suspect of the president's birth claims as "birthers" is negative.

“The fact is, nobody has any information — and his people in the United States don't even know which hospital,” Trump said. “His relatives don't even know which hospital he was born in.

“So this — it's a very strange situation, that’s all I can tell you," he continued. "And you know, it’s a very sad thing, because the people — the ‘birthers,’ they got labeled and they got labeled so negatively and even the word birther is a negative word.

Trump noted that the White House gets “angry at the question — and the fact is, if he wasn't born in this country, he shouldn't be the president of the United States.”

“Why doesn't he show his birth certificate?” Trump asked. “Why has he spent over $2 million in legal fees to keep this quiet and keep this silent?”
