Dems Hit Boehner’s Oil Company Tax Comments

House Speaker John Boehner said Monday that Congress “certainly ought to take a look at” the idea of raising taxes on major oil and gas companies. And now Democrats are trying to take political advantage of his comments, Politico reports.

"It is almost too good to be true, but gas hitting $4 per gallon seems to have finally caused Speaker Boehner to see the light on the insanity of providing subsidies to profit-soaked big oil companies," Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a statement.

With President Barack Obama starting to receive some blame for higher gasoline prices, Democrats are eager to turn the tables.

But do Boehner’s off-the-cuff remarks really carry that much weight? “Everybody's entitled to have a bad day. And he had a bad day," GOP strategist Mike McKenna told Politico.
