Members of Congress are beginning to realize that their involvement with Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert is doing a lot more for him than for them. Just last week, in testimony before a House Judiciary subcommittee about migrant farm workers, Colbert abandoned his prepared testimony, offering comedic comments instead,
Politico reports.

He said what qualified him to speak about the issue was working in the fields for 10 hours. Then he told a series of jokes.
Now congressmen and their aides are rejecting offers to appear on “The Colbert Report,” his TV show. “My experience with that show is like herpes. It never goes away, and it itches and sometimes flares up,” said a former aide to Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga., after his boss was skewered on the program.
