Republicans’ massive victory in mid-term elections gave a pretty good idea of the public’s low esteem for Congress. A new Gallup poll confirms that view. It shows that a record low 13 percent of the American public approve of the job Congress is doing, while 83 percent disapprove, Politico reports.

congress, approval, 13, percentThe lowest previous approval rating for Congress in a previous Gallup survey was 14 percent in July 2008. Among Democrats, 16 percent approve of Congress, down from 29 percent in November. Republicans are even less enthusiastic, with a mere 7 percent approving of the job Congress is doing. Gallup surveyed 1,019 adults Dec. 10-12. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
