New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has proposed a plan for public workers to pay nearly a third of their healthcare costs by 2014. Under the Republican’s plan, workers would pay 10 percent of their costs by this summer, and the percent would rise incrementally until it reaches 30 percent by July 2014.

The state expects to save $871 million annually once the full plan is in effect, according to the proposal.

State workers now pay just 1.5 percent of their salary toward healthcare.

Christie has said he is standing strong on the proposal and will not bargain with unions over reforms, reports PhillyBurbs.com.
