Capitol police on Tuesday arrested a senior aide to California Democrat Sen. Barbara for trying to bring marijuana into the Hart Senate Office Building, according to police reports.

Senator Barbara Boxer California Pot Bust HartMarcus Stanley, Boxer’s senior economic adviser, was busted as he attempted to “remove and conceal” the drugs during routine security checks at the entrance to the Hart building, Politico reported.

Once the green, leafy substance was checked and confirmed to be pot, Stanley, who has worked on the Hill since 2007, resigned his position. “Marcus Stanley is no longer with this office,” Boxer spokesman Zachary Coile told Politico. “He submitted his resignation, and Sen. Boxer accepted it because his actions yesterday were wrong and unacceptable.”

It’s not the first time someone on Sen. Boxer’s staff has run afoul of the law. In 2008, another Boxer aide, Jeffrey Rosato, was charged with receiving and distributing child porn. He was sentenced in May 2009 to five years in prison, according to published reports.
