After experiencing the results of the recent election, many of those who reside on the Left Coast woke up the following morning feeling as if they had been beamed into a movie sequel for a film that has yet to be made.

Real life in the former Golden State has become too much like a follow-up flick to 2006’s sci-fi comedy “Idiocracy.”

The movie never had a major theatrical release, but it has achieved a cult following due to its prophetic plotline. The humorous satire stars Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph as two characters who, after participating in a classified military hibernation experiment, wake up 500 years in the future.

During the movie’s introduction, the narrator informs the viewing audience that, since natural selection is indifferent toward intelligence, stupid people will, in the future, outnumber those with a modicum of intelligence.

The characters in the film discover a society that is uniformly lacking in brain power and any notion of individual responsibility as well.

A film reviewer for The New York Times Magazine described the world within which Luke Wilson’s character must navigate.

“The America he [Wilson’s film character] wakes up to has devolved radically: inarticulate citizens stare slack-jawed at the base entertainments of the Violence Channel, the president is a former wrestler who presides over monster-truck gladiator spectacles in a rundown arena and the crops are dying because they are being irrigated with a sports drink . . . ” the reviewer wrote.

In a recent real-life quasi-science fiction comedy, which could fittingly be dubbed “Idiocracy 2,” the electorate in California passed Gov. Jerry Brown's $6 billion Proposition 30 tax hike, elected Democrat candidates to every statewide office, and gave Democrat legislators super majorities in both state legislative chambers.

Proposition 30 imposes an income tax increase on the so-called rich. The additional tax burden will impact small businesses with taxable incomes that exceed $250,000.

California is in desperate need of jobs, just like the rest of the country. However, the Left Coast electorate has decided that it would prefer to try and squeeze more money out of the very businesses that have been yielding the greatest number of workplace positions.

When it comes to its elementary schools, even though the former Golden State’s teachers are paid the highest teaching salaries in the U.S., and state spending has hit record levels, students rank near the nation’s bottom in academic performance (48th place), when compared with other states.

The tax weary folks in California must now shell out even more money so that the out of control political class can enhance the wallets of its public sector workers, who incidentally are the second highest paid in the nation.

As the Left Coast lives out the sequel to “Idiocracy,” it makes me hope California isn’t headed for a sequel to “Armageddon.”
