Republican presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich is predicting a win in New Hampshire could seal the deal on the GOP nomination – and possibly vault him into the White House.
The Ohio governor's bold declaration came in an interview Monday night on the
"Erin Burnett Out Front" show on CNN.
"If I come out of New Hampshire as a big story, I think I will be the nominee and I think I have an excellent chance of being president," Kasich predicted.
Kasich is polling third in New Hampshire, at 11.2 percent, behind front-running Donald Trump, who has 30.2 percent and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, with 13.2 percent, according to an averaging by
Real Clear Politics.
The governor praised his campaign team's "combination in New Hampshire of very good television … and ground game," saying: "If we can come out of that it would be good" in helping to raise money, name recognition and getting "people to help me."
"I'm having the greatest time of my life," he added. "I feel really good that we have momentum in New Hampshire…. I'm not a fortune teller, [but] a lot of people counted me out and I'm rising."
