Early exit polling in New Hampshire looks good for Democrat Bernie Sanders and Republicans Donald Trump and John Kasich, "Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd said after MSNBC exit polling data was released on Tuesday.

According to MSNBC's figures, independent voters leaned slightly toward voting in the Republican primary. A total of 42 percent voted in the GOP primary, while 39 percent in the Democratic primary.

That should help the front-runner Trump and Kasich, the governor of Ohio, Todd said.

The exit polls also found when voters made up their minds on whom to vote for:

Republicans

• Last few days: 46 percent
• Last week: 6 percent
• Last month: 16 percent
• Before that: 32 percent

Democrats

• Last few days: 23 percent
• Last week: 7 percent
• Last month: 15 percent
• Before that: 55 percent

The fact that more than half of Democrats have had their minds made up for more than a month likely bodes well for Sanders, the U.S. senator from neighboring Vermont. Sanders has long been leading the polls in New Hampshire.
