Dixville Notch, a tiny town in upstate New Hampshire famous for voting at midnight, has cast its nine primary votes in favor of Bernie Sanders on the Democratic side and John Kasich on the Republican side.

"Sanders shut out Hillary Clinton, 4-0, while Kasich bested Donald Trump, 3-2," CNN reported. "Those were the only nine votes cast."

The Dixville Notch tradition of casting the first primary votes in the nation is a tradition that dates back through the decades, and is often seen as a fun, un-scientific predictor of how the rest of the state will ultimately vote.

"At the end of the day, there was more meat and there was less noise," Les Otten, 66, said of Kasich's campaign. "To me, it came down between he and Jeb Bush. I think they were both great, but Kasich managed to stay out of the fray."

John Kasich said that he worked hard to secure the votes in the small community, visiting the town last month and phoning each of the nine people who vote there.

"The first voters in NH cast their ballots moments ago and John Kasich won 60 percent of the vote!" Kasich campaign manager John Weaver wrote to supporters, The Wall Street Journal reported. "This is another major sign of our momentum in New Hampshire!"

In recent election cycles, Dixville Notch went in for Barack Obama and Mitt Romney tied with John Huntsman. Hillary Clinton went on to beat Obama in the New Hampshire primary, and Romney won on the Republican side.

Along with Dixville Notch, a former resort town that's now home to a single family and its employees, two other small communities, Hart's Location and Millsfield, also rush to the polls as soon as they open.

Kasich garnered the most votes in Hart's Location, while Ted Cruz won Millsfield.
