It’s been tried before, in a variety of ways. Starting with the time of our American Revolution, when the British military was sure their superior numbers and training and armament would quickly quash this upstart colonial revolt, and continuing through the War of 1812, the Mexican army attack on the Alamo, the Spanish American War, and the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor — through two World Wars—this country, when united, has never been defeated.
In fact, history will show that each time America has been attacked from without, she has grown notably stronger! When the battle has been joined, and the enemy clearly identified, our citizens have found a will, a way, and a unified strength to come out on top — with renewed zeal and creativity and amazing growth.
The communists took a different tack. The USSR, even when led by the iron-willed Stalin, knew that the mighty Russian military would not likely prevail against a determined United States . . . so they devised a cunning plan to establish communist cells in this country, made up almost totally of Americans. Suddenly there was an official Communist Party of the United States, officed in New York City, with its chairman Gus Hall.
It seemed indigenous, homegrown, and almost legitimate. Just another choice free people might make.
Dr. Fred Schwartz, from Australia of all places, wrote a book entitled “You Can Trust the Communists to Do What They Say.” In it, he accurately quoted the detailed plans the Russian party leaders had laid out to infiltrate America’s media, entertainment, and education. By changing the moral compass of our country, especially in the young generation, they would literally take over our culture, and eventually our government, from within.
I wish I could tell you this plan had failed. Oh, it suffered setbacks, from congressional investigations, slip-ups, and revelations, to anti-communist rallies, spy arrests, continued prosperity (always a deterrent), and a man named Ronald Reagan.
But seeds were sown, and the weeds kept growing. The subject matter and mindset in movies, television, music, and education, had taken hold, in ways hard to measure or indict specifically. The bad guys began to win, crime wasn’t always punished, and unspeakable things began to seem acceptable, even glamorous.
Confidence in our elected leaders was gradually replaced with suspicion, cynicism, and incessant digging for skeletons in the closet. And occasionally, the digging paid off, revealing that power can corrupt, and immoral people don’t become paragons of virtue just because they’re elected to office. Politically, too many voters became apathetic, disinvolved.
In education, though, the seeds really flourished. “New math” replaced arithmetic, iconic moments in history were expunged from the history books in favor of current “politically correct” themes, teachers were unionized, and a strange new approach developed in the classroom that devalued accuracy and grades and even attendance.
As a result, America’s standard and achievement in education have declined dramatically; somewhere Marx and Lenin must be rubbing their hands in glee.
And now, according to facts just revealed by Focus on the Family, a frightening new assault is well under way, on our very processes of government. Focus is the leading family advocacy outfit in the country, and happens to be based in Colorado, where they’ve had a ringside seat for the activities of a multimillionaire named Tim Gill. This man, and other extremely wealthy men who share his priorities, have demonstrated that enough money can buy virtually anything . . . maybe even a country.
Tim Gill founded Quark, a very successful software company, and 14 years ago began pouring much of his massive wealth into the homosexual rights movement. Dozens of gay rights organizations owe their existence to Gill. That list includes the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN — the nation’s leading homosexual activist group in America’s schools). I’ve written here before about the goals GLSEN has for our schools and the minds of our young; they are determined to see that all teachers imbed acceptance, even admiration, for every kind of deviant behavior, into the curricula and permanent perceptions of America’s students.
By last year, his foundation had given more than $110 million to such groups. But the enormous contributions only tell part of the story. He’s now engaged in what he calls “strategic philanthropy,” creating infrastructure for the movement and launching seminars to teach these groups to sharpen their message, hone their efficiency, and raise even more money effectively.
And now he is actively engaging in (and funding) “strategic politics,” through the Gill Action Fund, pouring huge sums of money into carefully targeted state legislative races. He understands that it takes far less money to make a huge difference at the state level. And the results can be priceless. Or, depending on your point of view, devastating.
Focus on the Family was witness to what Gill accomplished in Colorado in 2004. He dumped $5 million into political races, mostly at the state level. He found other millionaires and even a few billionaires to join him, and they collectively poured huge money into PAC-like “527” organizations that launched blistering attack ads against conservative office holders in “swing districts.” They cleverly avoided same-sex “marriage” and homosexual goals, focusing instead on other issues important in the districts — often twisting the facts beyond recognition to distort the conservative’s record.
The result was what one Republican legislator called a “tsunami” of money that swept several good conservatives out of office, giving liberal Democrats control of the legislature for the first time in 30 years!
In 2006, Gill set his sights higher and moved out across the country. He and his cohorts spent at least $15 million, and won 50 of 70 targeted races, defeating some pro-marriage leaders and giving Democrats favorable to his goals new control of legislatures in several states.
Just getting started really, he’s already helped give Democrats legislative control in New Hampshire and Oregon, and lawmakers quickly responded by giving “marriage” (in all but name) to homosexuals in both states.
This is really just the tip of the iceberg, far worse than the one that sank the Titanic. It’s a hideous new development, that Focus intends to continue exposing while it can still be thwarted. I urge you to take the trouble to read more at www.FocusAction.org, where there’s much more than I can report here. While communism failed in many of its goals, Gill has found a way to use capitalism to achieve some of the very same ones.
