Santorum: Conservative Vote Could Beat Romney

Sunday, 04 March 2012 10:29 AM EST

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum says the conservative vote would dominate the Republican presidential race, except that he's splitting that vote now with Newt Gingrich.

Santorum said on "Fox News Sunday" that the two rivals' combined vote totals in Tuesday's Michigan primary topped the winning total of rival Mitt Romney.

Santorum calls their supporters the "anti-Romney vote" and that it's strong enough to deny Romney for nomination.

Santorum says the race will "narrow over time" and allow him to pick up more steam. Overall, he said, "we've done amazingly well for a campaign that didn't have a lot of resources."
