Camera Recorded LA Kidnap Suspect Entering Mexico

Saturday, 06 April 2013 10:13 AM EDT

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police say a video camera recorded the main suspect in last month's abduction of a 10-year-old girl crossing the border into Mexico.

Police spokesman Kevin Maiberger said Friday the video of 30-year-old Tobias Summers was recorded at the Tecate border crossing east of San Diego.

Police, however, will not say when the video was recorded.

The kidnap victim vanished from her home in the early morning hours of March 27 and was dropped off hours later at a hospital.

Summers is charged with kidnapping, nearly three dozen counts of sexual assault and burglary. He's described as a transient with a criminal record including convictions for burglary and grand theft.

An alleged accomplice is in custody. Twenty-nine-year-old Daniel Martinez has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and burglary.
