MEXICO CITY (AP) — Venezuela's ousted chief prosecutor has told the region's other prosecutors that President Nicholas Maduro removed her to stop a probe linking him and his inner circle to nearly $100 million in bribes from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

Venezuela's new constitutional assembly had removed Luisa Ortega who had become an outspoken critic of Maduro.

Ortega re-emerged Friday via internet, streaming from an undisclosed location to address a gathering of Latin America's prosecutor's in Puebla, Mexico. She says several prosecutors have fled Venezuela fearing for their lives.

Ortega has been barred from leaving Venezuela and an arrest order was issued for her husband for allegedly running an extortion ring out of the prosecutor's office.

Odebrecht officials had admitted to paying almost $100 million in bribes to Venezuelan officials in exchange for contracts.
