Cuban Blogger Yoani Sanchez Freed from Detention

Saturday, 06 October 2012 02:44 PM EDT

HAVANA — Cuban authorities have released blogger Yoani Sanchez after more than a day in custody.

Sanchez says on her Twitter feed that she was released late Friday night.

She, her husband and another man were detained Thursday near the eastern city of Bayamo, where a Spanish man was going on trial in connection with a car crash that killed prominent dissident Oswaldo Paya.

Sanchez says she traveled from her home in Havana to cover the trial as a journalist, but pro-government bloggers alleged that her real intention was to tarnish the proceedings.

Sanchez tweeted Saturday that her arrest was "nothing" in comparison to the Paya family's loss.
