El Salvador's President Salvador Sanchez Ceren is receiving medical treatment in Cuba after falling ill at a regional summit in Veracruz, Mexico, the El Salvador government said in a statement.
Sanchez Ceren, 70, of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front party, was elected in March with just over 50 percent of the vote. He previously served as vice president to his predecessor, Mauricio Funes.
The government didn't disclose details of Sanchez Ceren's illness and said in the statement that procedures are "being carried out with complete normality."
