The election of Liberal Party Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, coupled with a new American president set to take office in January 2017, is likely to improve relations between the neighboring countries, U.S.-Canada relations expert Earl Fry says.

Trudeau is "only 43 years old, didn’t have much in the way of a career," Fry said Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York. "Before that he was a teacher for a while, and an actor for a while, and a model for a while. But he’s mostly been a politician in recent years."

Asked by host John Catsimatidis about the possibility of reviving the Keystone oil pipeline project under the next U.S. president, Fry said, "There is no doubt [Trudeau] would be supportive of the United States taking more Canadian oil."

President Barack Obama opposes the oil pipeline, making for a relationship with former Prime Minster Stephen Harper that was "not the best," Fry said.

As for Obama and Trudeau, Fry said, "They seem to be getting along quite well."
