The growth in world trade has consistently exceeded the growth of world incomes over the past 60 years, but the gap between the two is narrowing as long, thin supply chains are cut and manufacturing is brought back on shore. Are regionalization and localization beginning to win out over globalization? It would appear so. The global financial crisis seems to have altered the thinking about outsourcing and efficiency, and perhaps changed the business model forever.
