One U.S. military service member and three defense contractors were killed on Thursday when their aircraft crashed in the Philippines.

In a statement, the U.S. military said the aircraft, which was contracted by the U.S. military, had been carrying out intelligence and surveillance support.

It did not say why the crash occurred or identify the type of aircraft.
