A spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin told ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos the leader was looking to meet with President Donald Trump.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Putin, said Friday the meeting would give the two leaders the opportunity to forge a better relationship, the Hill reported.

"If two president's meet each other, if they exchange views and if they decide that they want to reestablish a dialogue, then there will be a chance for relations to get better," Peskov said.

The suggestion comes as there are several ongoing investigations in the U.S. involving claims of involvement by the Russian government in the 2016 presidential election and charges of collusion between Trump and Russian officials.
