President Donald Trump joked on Friday with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the continuing trade dispute at the Group of Seven summit in Quebec.
"Justin has agreed to cut all tariffs and all trade barriers between Canada and the United States, so I'm very happy about that," Trump said as he and Trudeau sat before reporters at the meeting in the resort town of Charlevoix.
Trudeau laughed, The Hill reports, responding: "So I'd say NAFTA is in good shape."
Trump and leaders of the other G-7 nations are at odds over the president's recent decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, Japan, China and the European Union.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that he would isolate Trump by excluding him from the traditional joint statement signed by the leaders at the end of the summit, but Trump said that probably would not happen.
"I think we'll have a joint statement," he told reporters.
