U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said Tuesday that "Israel wants a peace agreement but it doesn't need one," according to The Hill.

Haley, who is planning to depart from her post in the next month, made the remark while commenting on President Donald Trump's administration and its plan for peace in the Middle East in an address to the U.N. Security Council.

"What awaits the Palestinian people with a peace agreement are the prospects of a massive improvement in the quality of their lives and far greater control over their political future," she said. "It is time we faced a hard truth: both sides would benefit greatly from a peace agreement, but the Palestinians would benefit more, and the Israelis would risk more."

She added Palestinians will have "far greater political control" with a peace agreement, though she did not vow the U.S. will support an independent Palestine as previous administrations have. She did remark the U.N. is "hopelessly biased" against Israel.

Haley said the plan put forth by the U.S. is a "choice between a hopeful future that sheds the tired, old and unrealistic demands of the past, or a darker future that sticks with the proven failed talking points."
