Paris is looking to ban vehicles with traditional combustion engines by 2030, Fortune is reporting.

"Transport is one of the main greenhouse gas producers . . . so we are planning an exit from combustion engine vehicles, or fossil-energy vehicles, by 2030," Christophe Nadjovski, an official responsible for transportion policy at city hall, said.

His comments came during an interview with radio station France Info, according to Fortune.

Paris is already planning to ban diesel-powered cars from its streets by 2024 when the city will host the Summer Olympics, USA Today reported.

And the French government already has said it will ban traditional combustion engine cars in 2040.

Other cities in Europe, including London and Barcelona, have announced bans for the future in an attempt to address environment concerns, Fortune reported.

Meanwhile, The Times in London reported that gas and diesel vehicles are expected to be banned from the center of Oxford in an effort to create a "zero-emission zone."

Only electric vehicles will be allowed on a growing number of streets in the city starting in 2020, according to the newspaper.
