In an effort to instill confidence in flying amid the global coronavirus pandemic, a Vietnamese airline, Vietjet, is offering an insurance plan that would pay up to $8,570 if a passenger were to catch the virus on their flight.

The program is called "Sky Covid Care" and free to eligible passengers on domestic flights until June 30, the U.K.'s Independent.

"With the insurance, passengers are eligible for insurance coverage and benefits from Vietjet within 30 days starting at 00:01 of the flight date, regardless of how passengers are infected with the disease," the carrier said, adding it has "tens of billion dong" to cover the insurance that will "bring passengers assurance."

Current exchange rates are around 24,000 Vietnamese dong for a U.S. dollar.

The plan will be void for those who have already tested positive for COVID-19 or violate travel bans or isolation policies, as a ticketed passenger must "comply with all regulations on disease prevention and control of Vietjet, the Ministry of Health, and authorities," per the report.

Also, passengers with epilepsy, mental illness, or suicidal behavior are also not covered, according to the airline.

Vietnam has just 141 confirmed coronavirus cases and has yet to report a single death from the outbreak, according to the latest data compiled by Worldometer.
