Hezbollah Leader Warns Israel of Expanding Attacks in Syria

Saturday, 26 January 2019 05:38 PM EST

BEIRUT (AP) — The head of Lebanon's Hezbollah group is warning Israel of widening its attacks in Syria because a miscalculation can drag the region into a war.

Hassan Nasrallah spoke Saturday during a wide-ranging interview with the Beirut-based Al-Mayadeen TV station.

Nasrallah said Israel so far has failed to undermine the Syrian government, extract Iran from Syria or prevent Hezbollah from acquiring precision missiles.

He says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the person "most disappointed" by U.S. plans to withdraw from Syria and cited the pullout as another "failure."

Nasrallah said Iran, Syria and Hezbollah could "at any moment" decide to deal differently with Israel's actions and hinted Tel Aviv might be a target.

He said: "Be cautious not to exaggerate what you are doing in Syria. Miscalculation could drag the region into a war or a major confrontation."
