Eight people died after a Grupo Aeromexico SAB regional jet had an emergency landing in the northern state of Durango, broadcaster Televisa said.

Televised images showed smoke pouring from the Embraer SA E190 plane. Multiple people were injured, said a state official in Durango, which is located about 530 miles (860 kilometers) southwest of Laredo, Texas. The state governor said about 80 people were on board.

The airline said it was working to verify details of the accident.
