Mexican Electoral Court Withdraws Fine on AMLO's Party

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's federal electoral court has revoked a $10 million fine levied against the soon-to-be ruling party.

The court says Saturday that the National Electoral Institute did not have sufficient evidence to substantiate the fine it issued in July against the Morena party of President-elect Andres Manual Lopez Obrador.

The institute alleged that a trust fund established by the party for victims of last year's earthquake had unusual movement of funds. It also said it could not determine whether money raised to help victims was instead used by Morena to buy votes.

Lopez Obrador accused the institute of levying the fine out of vengeance. He takes office on Dec. 1.
