MEXICO CITY (AP) — Guatemala's election officials say a "vote-by-vote" recount of the June 16 general elections has begun following multiple delays.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal is comparing physical ballots with the digital results at all 21,099 polling stations in the country Thursday. They reached an agreement this week with political party leaders to review the votes one-by-one.

The recount had been set for Wednesday but was postponed after the Attorney General's Office searched the electoral tribunal's offices to investigate an apparent software problem that caused a counting error.

The electoral tribunal had previously opened a legal complaint against the Attorney General's Office.

Former first lady Sandra Torres and doctor Alejandro Giammattei will head to a second-round runoff vote on Aug. 11 if the initial results remain unchanged.
